NZ skiing can be fickle so they say, and what’s bad for the ski resorts is usually good for heli skiing and the big peaks around the divide still get plastered no matter what. A bad season for one is not so for another and that’s just life in the mountains I guess. I’ve been teaching skiing and ski guiding this winter full time and although like I mentioned its been a lean one, you can always find something fun to do in the mountains.
Ski touring near Cardrona and TrebleCone has been ace, powder, peace and a great feeling of achievement from earning our turns. Mini adventures in the backcountry keep me fit whilst allowing me to keep my head in the snow. Which is my way of saying, keeping myself aware of the snow quality, route conditions and the avalanche hazards.
I have a few trips planned for the next few weeks, with work load reducing it’s time to get out and about for me!
